The long-standing mat weaving village was established over 200 years ago in Lap Vo district, concentrated
mainly in 02 communes Dinh An and Dinh Yen with 1,171 households and 2,342 workers participating
in production. The mats are diverse in color, pattern, and size; from plain mats to printed mats (Spiral,
chesspiece...); On average Dinh Yen mat weaving village supplies millions of mats diverse in design to
Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City markets each year. In 2003, the Provincial People's Committee
recognized 08 traditional mat weaving villages in 02 communes Dinh An and Dinh Yen - Lap Vo district.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially recognized Dinh Yen mat weaving village as a
national intangible cultural heritage in 2013. Previously, Dinh Yen mat village was best known as Cho
mat (ghost market), because the market is held at night and lasted about 02 hours.
The beginning time of the market is unstable, depends on tide. This is a unique cultural feature of Dinh
Yen people. Although it is a market, the mat market is unlike any other type of market in the country.
