OVERVIEW OF CRAFT VILLAGES AND TRADITIONAL CRAFT VILLAGES
IN DONG THAP PROVINCE
The province has 41 craft villages and traditional craft villages (by the end of 2023) which have been
recognized according to regulations. There are 01 traditional professions, 21 craft villages and 18 traditional
craft villages and they are operate in different groups: 01 traditional profession, 8 craft villages that
process and preserve agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, 30 craft villages of producing
wooden furniture, rattan, ceramics, glass, textiles, yarn, embroidery, wickerwork, small mechanics. The
recognition of craft villages and traditional craft villages has been contributed to honoring the value
of products, creating more jobs, increasing income for people and playing an important role in
preserving cultural beauty and heritage in local as well.
The total number of production and business establishments is about 4,623 households with about
14,914 workers, of which 12,285 are regular workers, make up 82.37%. The total revenue of the craft
village is about 91.747,61 billion VND, the average income is about 3.43 million VND/worker/month. The
group producing and trading ornamental animals has the highest income of about 8 million
VND/worker/month, the group producing handicrafts has the lowest income of about 1.9 million VND/
worker /month. Currently, handcrafted village products using environmentally friendly materials and
traditional elements (producing woven from water hyacinth, bamboo, etc.) are becoming more and
more popular on the international market.
A number of traditional craft villages are developing in association with tourism such as: shawl weaving
village, boat-building craft village, ornamental flower craft village, flour making craft village, mat
weaving village, basket weaving etc.
In Dong Thap province, there are many potential occupations for development and replication, bringing
stable income to people that is being mobilized by localities, creating conditions for production and
business establishments to develop products under the One Commune One Product Program (OCOP
Program).
